(1) | An applicant for the issuing of an initial type rating by name for conventionally controlled microlight aeroplanes shall have demonstrated to the holder of a Grade B or Grade A conventionally controlled microlight aeroplane flight instructor rating, or a flight instructor appropriately rated in terms of Part 61, the ability to perform, as PIC of a conventionally controlled microlight aeroplane, the procedures and manoeuvres as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 62, with a degree of competency appropriate to the privileges granted to the holder of a national pilot licence. |
(2) | The applicant shall undergo the skills test referred to in subregulation (1) within the 12 months of passing the theoretical knowledge examination referred to in regulation 62.04.4 and within the 60 days immediately preceding the date of application. |
(3) | The skills test referred to in subregulation (1) shall consist of the following: |
(a) | A general skills test of not less than 60 minutes. |
(b) | A navigation skills test of not less than 90 minutes flown at normal cruising speed and which includes a full stop landing at a point other than the point of departure. |
