(1) | An applicant for a Grade Ill Helicopter Flight Instructor Rating must— |
(a) | hold a valid CPL (Helicopter) or ATPL (Helicopter); |
(b) | have successfully completed at least 20 hours of flight instructor patter training as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 61, conducted by a Grade I or a Grade II Helicopter Flight Instructor, of which at least 15 hours must be in a helicopter and 5 hours may be in an approved FSTD; |
(c) | have passed the theoretical knowledge examination referred to in regulation 61.19.3; |
(d) | have successfully completed the appropriate training course as prescribed in Document SA-CATS 61, with a Part 141 approved ATO; |
(e) | have successfully undergone the instructor ground evaluation test referred to Document SA-CATS 61; and |
(f) | pass the skills test referred to in regulation 61.15.4 conducted by a DFE within 36 months of completing the instructor theoretical knowledge examinations and within 30 days of successfully completing the instructor ground evaluation referred to in paragraph (e). |
(2) | A South African Air Force pilot instructor and navigator instructor may apply for exemption for some or all of the requirements, referred to in subregulation (1), as indicated in regulation 61.01.9(23). |
(3) | The holder of a flight instructor rating in another category of aircraft may be exempted from attending the theoretical training referred to in paragraph (e) of subregulation (1). |
(4) | The number of hours referred to in paragraph (b) of subregulation (1) may be reduced to 10 hours of flight training in helicopters if the applicant is the holder of a flight instructor rating in another category of aircraft. |
