Part 136 : Air Transport Operations - Commercial Operation of Free Balloons

Subpart 2 : Flight Crew

136.02.1 Composition of flight crew

(1)A minimum of one flight crew member shall be required for the operation of a commercial air transport balloon.

 

(2)The operator shall ensure that the flight crew member—
(a)is competent to perform the duties assigned to them; and
(b)holds the appropriate valid licences and ratings.

 

(3)The flight crew member shall hold a valid radiotelephony operator licence or an equivalent document issued by an appropriate authority, authorising such member to operate the type of radio transmitting equipment to be used.

 

(4)An operator shall designate for each flight a PIC and where the balloon is required by this part to be operated by two pilots, a second-in-command:  Provided that it is for the purpose of training and the operator shall specify the procedures in accordance with the training programme as prescribed in regulation 136.04.2 and requirements prescribed in Part 69.
